Hudson Man Sentenced for Failing to Register as Sex Offender
Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Eric D. Jackson, 32, Hudson, Wis., was sentenced today by Chief U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 15 months in prison for failing to comply with his obligation to register as a sex offender. Jackson pleaded guilty to this charge on November 3, 2011.
Jackson was convicted of second degree sexual assault of a child in 1997 in St. Croix County, Wis.. As a result of that conviction, Jackson is required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act. This is a life-long requirement and sex offenders violate federal law when they travel from state to state and fail to update their registration.
In 2010, Jackson moved back and forth between Indiana and Wisconsin and knowingly failed to update his registration as required.
The charge against Jackson was the result of an investigation conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rita M. Rumbelow.
